Lamb Curry

Dah lama tingin nak makan lamb, tapi kat Miri ni lamb import dia tak sah2 tulis halal so malas nak beli (orang Melayu lain ramai yang beli tapi kita jangan ikut orang, yakinkan diri sendiri dulu...). Kalau nak makan lamb, kena pergi Brunei beli.

Malas nak menaip resepi, masak macam kari biasa je tapi letak serai. Korek2 lah gobok kat sini dah ada respi kari.

Cury recipe was posted before (beef / chicken curry), just replace it with lamb. Adjust the consistency that you like by adding more / less coconut milk & more / less curry powder for hot / mild taste.

Fish Ball Mixed Soup

Our simple dish last night but everyone enjoyed it......

I love fish balls and other products made in Brunei not just for the special quality but also the "halal" comfort. Only managed to buy two varieties during my short trip yesterday & I guess others were sold out (usually there were also fluffy fish cakes of various flavour, and ready made yong tau-fu).

Simple soup will be nice whereby you can enjoy it by itself or with rice:

INGREDIENTS:
Fish Balls
Prawn Sticks
(or any other fish/seafood products of your choice)
Some chicken
1 Potato - diced
4 cloves Garlic*
1 tsp Black Pepper corns* (*pounded)
1" Ginger
Salt

METHOD:
1. Heat up some oil & stir-fry pounded ingredients until fragrant.
Add in chicken pieces & stir for a while.
Add a liter of water & rest of ingredients.
Cover & cook until potato is tender.

2. Served with Kicap + Cili Padi sauce.

Baby Liana First Solid Feed - Avocado Puree

The child specialist doctor that we saw yesterday advised that it is time for baby Liana to start on her solid food. I decided to start her with Avocado puree. The reason I chose it because I want to start my baby with something natural & prepared at home instead of the bottled or processed food. Avocado makes a great first food for baby due to its texture and creaminess as well as its high nutrient content.

The first time introduction was 1 tsp & Liana's reaction was positive. She enjoyed it very much which I can tell from her kicking & smiling reaction.

RECIPE:
Buy medium soft avocado.
Peel avocado & grate the flesh with the finest grater.
Grate just amount needed (1 tsp for the first introduction).
It is now ready to be fed to baby.

Liana 5 Months

Today Liana is 5 months old and she can turn... (although she doesn't really like it & prefer to sit up on her rocking chair or get carried).

Took her for the regular vaccination yesteday and surprisingly she did not put on weight since the last 2 months. Must be due to the sickness after travelling whereby she lost some weight. Although she has gained some weight back eversince, the chart shows a static trend. Checked with our baby specialist and he suggested that it is time for Liana to start on solid food.

Fried Bitter Gourd

Fresh Bitter Gourd was very cheap yesterday and was promoted by the hypermaket salesboy. Fried Bitter Gourd crossed my mind instantly which I recalled seeing it at Zana's house, so I bought one huge one. Anyway, once I was in the kitchen I got too lazy to check on the recipe so just threw in whatever... kalau tak betoi, tolong komen ya dik zana...hehe.

INGREDIENTS:
Bitter Gourd - sliced thinly in half ring shape
4 tbsp Rice Flour
4 tbsp Plain Flour
1 tsp Curry Powder
Water, Salt

METHOD:
1. Rub bitter gourd with 1 tbsp salt & leave for 10 minutes.
This is to reduce the bitter taste. Rinse.

2.Mix all ingredients to form smooth batter.
Dip bitter gourd in the batter & deep fry until crispy.

Mini Sardine Rolls

These Mini Sardine Rolls were  also made for Mamasya's visit on the recent Saturday. I have also made it earlier on during Hari Raya makan with relatives & was pleased with result that I made it again this time. The pastry is flaky & crispy (rasa lemak2 butter....).

The recipe was found in RecipeNet posted by Yong but originated by KakTeh - thanx to both of you. Here is the recipe rewritten and edited to suit my method:

(Makes 60 pieces)
PASTRY:
250g Butter
500g Plain Flour
A pinch of Salt
cold water
(as a guide Along used about 3-5 tbsp)

Use rubbing in method to mix flour and butter until they become like bread crumbs. Add salt and pour in cold water a tbspn at a time until just enough to form dough. Chill while preparing for filling.

FILLING:
1 can Sardine
- drained & mashed
1/2 Big Onion - chopped
1 Red Chili - sliced
1 Kasturi Lime
Salt
-Mix well

METHOD:
Roll out the dough, place filling and roll.
Cut into short rolls (about 1.5" length) & slice the top surface before brushing with beaten egg.
Bake at 175C for about 30 mins.

Bandung Jelly

Made this simple dessert yesterday for Mamasya's visit. Recipe taken from Mat Gebu.

INGREDIENTS:
1 packet Jelly Powder (Konyaku)
200g Sugar
800ml Water
250ml Milk
3 Daun Pandan
3/4 tsp Rose Syrup (I used 1/2 cup)
1 cup Grass Jelly
Few drops Rose color (I added this)

METHOD:
1. Boil all ingredients until dissolved, stirring with whisk all the time.
Discard pandan leaves.
Add in Grass Jelly.

2. Pour into mould.
Cool & chill.

Breakfast Menu

Menu: Toasted Bread with slice cheese filling, Fluffy Omelet, Spicy Baked Beans, Fried Sausage & Salad

Looked simple but I think preparing & cooking fried noodles are simpler as it is all-in-one, whilst the above requires different preparation of several types.

Glutinous Rice Rolls (Pulut Gulung Serunding)

Made this just now and took me only about an hour of preparation. Just wanted to clear out the ingredients in pantries and for kids' breakfast tomorrow.

I did not measure the ingredients but don't worry, no accuracy necessary.

INGREDIENTS:
Some glutinous rice - washed
Coconut Milk + Salt
Seaweed sheets - roasted slightly
Serunding

METHOD:
1. Steam glutinous rice. Sprinkled with coconut milk occasionally & cook until tender.

2. While still hot, place the glutinous rice on the seaweed sheet.
Spread some serunding & roll tightly.
Slice & serve.

Note: For ease of rolling, use bamboo sheet (used for sushi rolling).
