I cooked it with thin coconut milk as my family likes it that way and anyway less cholestrol. You can adjust the thickness of the gravy to your preference:
INGREDIENTS:
1 kg Bony Beef
½ cup Dhal
½ pot Coconut Milk
4 heaped spoon Curry Powder
3 inch Ginger - knocked
1 Cinnamon Stick**
1 Star Anise**
3 Cardamon**
5 Cloves**
2 Potato - diced
½ Carrot - diced
Few Longbeans - cut
5 Shallots
2 cloves Garlic
2 sprigs Curry Leaves
METHOD:
1. Boil beef until tender.
I used pressure cooker to speed up the process.
2. Boil dhal until 3/4 cooked.
Add in coconut milk, beef, curry powder, ginger, spices* and boil.
Add in potato & carrot and cooked until tender.
Add in long bean and cook for few minutes.
Off fire.
3. Heat up few tbsp oil in a small pan.
Fry sliced shallot, garlic and curry leaves until brown.
Pour into cooked dhal.
4. Ready to serve with white rice or rotis.
